This longer course gives you a chance to make a more technical piece or try out several different processes. £270 per course with an accumulating discount for re-booking, starting at 5% up to 10%. Existing students will get priority booking and then spare places will be released.
I’ve decided to have more structure in the courses, so that we can really focus on a skill. You can still make whatever you like but I wanted to give you the opportunity to try things like reticulation, fold forming and pressing hollow forms which are too time consuming to demonstrate and teach just one person in the class. So here’s the plan…
2026/2027 Monday evenings 18:00-20:30, Tuesday mornings 10:30-13:00 & Wednesday evenings 18:00-20:30
(The Wednesday evening class are a term ahead in the schedule so they will start with Surface Texture)

TERM 1 :
Soldering and joining. (The most important thing to learn - it holds it all together!)
6 weeks of learning the different soldering methods.
Suitable for complete beginners to learn new skills, anyone that is getting stuck on a tricky solder and needs to work out what is going wrong or just wants to take their pieces to the next level. Along the way we will be sawing, hammering, filing to make whatever item you like but focusing on joining and soldering. I’ll do plenty of demonstrations and problem solving, but most importantly there will be time for you to practice soldering. I can also give advice on tools and kit to buy to use at home.
There’s only 3 places per class so we have plenty of time for focused tuition.
TERM 2:
Surface Texture, reticulation and granulation (Lots of fire and melting!)
6 weeks of experimenting with surface texture.
Suitable for complete beginners or anyone wanting to add to their jewellery making skills. Along the way we will be sawing, hammering, filing to make whatever item you like but focusing on surface texture, reticulation and granulation. I’ll do plenty of demonstrations, but most importantly you’ll get a chance to experiment and practice. I can also give advice on tools and kit to buy to use at home.
There’s only 3 places per class so we have plenty of time for focussed tuition.
TERM 3:
Metal Forming (Lot’s of hammering - which is good for the soul!)
6 weeks of learning different ways to shape the metal.
Suitable for complete beginners and anyone wanting to improve their hammering techniques and make more sculptural pieces. Along the way we will be sawing, hammering, filing to make whatever item you like but focusing on form. We will be forging, fold-forming and using anti-clastic stakes. I’ll do plenty of demonstrations, but most importantly you’ll get a chance to experiment and practice. I can also give advice on tools and kit to buy to use at home.
There’s only 3 places per class so we have plenty of time for focused tuition.
TERM 4:
Hollow forms
6 weeks of making gorgeous sculptural hollow pieces.
Suitable for complete beginners and anyone wanting to add to their jewellery skills. Along the way we will be sawing, hammering, filing to make whatever item you like but focusing on hollow form. We will be using a press and experimenting with doming and swage blocks to create our forms. I’ll be demonstrating and teaching you how to solder your pieces. I’m looking forward to this one as there really isn’t time in the general jewellery making classes to spend with just one person using the press and the more technical soldering set-ups, so running this class will be fun and I know you’ll make some fabulous pieces.
There’s only 3 places per class so we have plenty of time for focused tuition.
TERM 5:
Wax carving and casting
6 weeks of sand-casting from carved wax or found objects.
Suitable for complete beginners or anyone wanting to add to their jewellery making skills. We will be carving wax which is lovely and relaxing, then casting it which is very exciting (fire and molten metal) and then finishing it with filing, sanding and adding fittings. A complete experience!
I’ll do plenty of demonstrations, but most importantly you’ll get a chance to experiment and practice. I can also give advice on tools and kit to buy to use at home.
There’s only 3 places per class so we have plenty of time for focussed tuition.
